  • What is an Audiologist?

    An Audiologist is a certified and licensed professional who has earned a Doctoral Degree (Au.D.) or Master’s degree (M.S.) in the field of Audiology. Certified both nationally and by the state in which they practice in Audiologists are trained to diagnose and treat disorders of hearing.

  • What is the difference between an Audiologists and Hearing Instrument Specialist?

    The Audiologist has an advanced degree and is an expert in all aspects of hearing healthcare including fitting hearing devices while an H.I.S. has a high school or two year degree and has received training and passed their state exam for the dispensing of hearing devices only.

  • Do I need an appointment?

    If you are a new patient, you do need to schedule an appointment.  If you are an   existing hearing aid patient we do offer walk in hours for minor issues.

  • How do I know if I need hearing aids?

    After your hearing test one of our NYS licensed audiologist will review your results with you and if you have hearing loss the audiologist will discuss amplification options with you.

  • How much does a hearing aid cost?

    Everyone has an individual hearing loss and hearing needs. How much you spend will depend on your hearing loss and what level of technology is best for your lifestyle.  Hearing aid prices do vary based on technology levels.

  • How long is the warranty for a hearing aid?

    We offer a 3-year repair warranty and a 3 year loss/damage warranty on all of our hearing aids.  We do offer lifetime service for any adjustments or minor repairs at no cost.

  • How much does hearing aid follow up care cost?

    There is no office charge for hearing aid follow-up care, however, there is a charge to repair a hearing aid if it is out of warranty that we can’t fix in office. The charge will depend on the age of the hearing aid.

  • How long does an exam take?

    We schedule 30 to 60 minutes to complete the test and to discuss the test results along with any hearing aid recommendations, if appropriate.

  • Does insurance pay for hearing exams?

    The charge will be submitted to your health insurance company for payment however there is no guarantee of payment.

  • Does Medicare pay for hearing aids?

    Medicare does not pay for hearing aids.

  • Does insurance pay for hearing aids?

    That varies greatly based on the patient's insurance.

  • Is there a hearing aid trial period?

    New York state mandates a 45-day trial period.  We extend the trial period to 60 days.   The patient does pay for the hearing aids when they receive them but they are returnable during the 60-day trial period.

  • What is the return policy?

    If you return your hearing aids within the 60-day trial period, we will refund your money 100%.  We do not charge a return fee.

  • What do I do if I lose my hearing aid?

    If you lose your hearing aid contact you’re The Audiology Center for further information. If it is under warranty, we will get it replaced for you.

  • What if I have a hearing test from someplace else, can you use it?

    Yes, the FDA guidelines do require a hearing test within 6 months of being fit with a hearing aid.  We do reserve the right to restest your hearing if the test is not performed by an audiologist.

  • How long does my hearing aid battery last?

    It will depend on the size of your battery, whether or not it is rechargeable, and whether or not you are streaming with your hearing aid. This is something you can discuss with your Audiologist.

  • What is tinnitus?

    Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no external sound is present. It is often described as clicking, buzzing, hissing or a roaring
